This project offers families and friends of fallen heroes a way to share memories by using personalized outdoor digital billboards. See some of the billboards created for gold star families. “GOLD STAR… HEROES… BLUE STAR”

Those fallen while serving are not faceless people or statistics—they are someone's loved one. A “gold star” …mom, dad, wife, husband, fiancé, grandparent, sibling, cousin, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece… are family members who have lost a loved one in war.

Lives have been sacrificed while defending our country and preserving our freedoms. ONF has reserved the title, “Hero” for only those men and women in our nation’s uniform who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, whether they were killed in action (KIA) or died by other means while serving.

A "Blue Star" mom, dad, sister, spouse, etc.... has a loved one on active duty in the Armed Forces. During times of war, there are local family readiness groups available for support and information about their loved one's deployment and/or redeployment.

There are national organizations that offer families tremendous support such as Marine Parents United which offers workshops, conferences, education and entertainment for families of all military branches. Both Gold Star and Blue Star families are the backbone of our military!

ONF INVITES GOLD STAR FAMILIES TO SUBMIT PHOTOS

The gold star family project displays an image on an outdoor billboard of a fallen hero during or before active duty posing with a family member... mother, father, husband, wife, child, brother, sister, grandparent, battle-buddy, cousin, niece, nephew, friend or even pet companion. The headlines read, “MY SON (DAUGHTER, HUSBAND or DAD, etc.)... YOUR FALLEN HERO.” The gold star family billboards help keep the memories alive! These enormous graphics are never big enough to remind Americans that freedom is not free! May our heroes and their families always be honored and NEVER forgotten!

ONF offers free billboard designs, production and PSA submissions to billboard companies of digital capability within the area where gold star families reside. Because outdoor billboards are seen at a drive-by glance during digital rotation, images need to be sharp, clear and not too busy. If you would like to submit a photo for a billboard to be posted upon availability, please contact ONF.
