Don Behm

PTSD Advisor

Don Behm was drafted in Jan 1968 and served in Viet Nam as a combat infantryman from June 1968 to June 1969. Don fought with the 82nd airborne which took him from Hue to the Ashau valley and from the tunnels of Cu Chi to the Cambodian Border.

As a wounded warrior of an invisible injury, Don has survived posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Recognition and recovery for Don only began in 1998, and now devotes his life to giving back to veterans with PTSD.

By 2007, Don was working with the Michigan National Guard to help get PTSD suffers into treatment along with their families which is key in the success for recovery. He handled paperwork for veterans first learning about PTSD and facilitated special programs to include anger management. His work continued with other volunteers from the Michigan State University, Michigan National Guard Chaplain, doctors and university professors. He helped develop a “Buddy-to-Buddy” program which was designed to keep resources in front of returning service members to assure a smoother reintegration.

Don continues his mission to facilitate getting soldiers, veterans and their families into proper treatment for PTSD. His many years of personal experience and volunteerism also help bring PTSD to the public forefront.
